There's a Native American belief that before we are born, we choose our parents. It actually ties in pretty nicely with the reincarnation idea that we prearrange certain circumstances before each life so as to learn different lessons. Either way, our parents teach us so much more than they ever mean to. Through their choices, circumstances, faults, talents and ability to show their love and support, they mold us. If life is a rat race, then our folks determine what we come out of the starting blocks with.

The gifts they give us are so much more than biological.

Yeah, there's the basics of whether or not you go through life as pretty, ugly, or just sort of plain looking. I don't have to tell you that physical looks, athletic abilities, and general health definitely effect how we go through life. Our parents can decide whether or not we're deformed or mentally challenged by deciding to create alcohol syndrome or drug addicted babies. And they genetically predispose us to various future challenges, like breast cancer or heart disease. Other than by taking care of our bodies with proper rest and nutrition while growing up, there isn't a whole lot that they can do about most of the physical characteristics they pass along to us.

Most of us are average, that's what average means. So most of us inherit average bodies with average talents and average health. So what does it matter who we choose as our parents?

For proof, just look at the people who were raised by adopted parents or those who were raised in blended step-families. Their biology isn't really what comes to mind when we look at the gifts and challenges they received from their 'folks.'

Our parents - whether biological, adopted, or stepparents - determined what our environment would be while growing up. They chose our financial health, spiritual health, educational health, social health, and mental health. They may have consciously sat down and made the decisions and acted on them, or they may have paid no attention whatsoever to how those things would turn out. Many parents are themselves uneducated or unhealthy in some of these areas and don't even know that there were other choices to be made. It's not always intentional, what they chose. Either way, they made choices that determined all of those things for us.

It's really easy if we had blessed childhoods to give thanks to our parents for making wonderful choices on our behalf. If we believe in that theory that we choose our parents before birth, then we can nod and say, "Yep, I certainly did pick some winners! Sure am glad I picked those two as my parents. They supported me in everything I ever wanted to do and paid for my music lessons and never stopped loving me no matter what!"

But what if you were one of those kids whose childhood sucked? Was your dad an alcoholic? Was your mom the queen of guilt trips? Was your dad the overachiever who pressured you to carry on his legacy? Was your mother a gold digger hopping from one wealthy man to the next, never really paying attention to you? Were your folks ignorant and uneducated, not having a clue that you were a bored genius with nobody to talk to? Did they make choices constantly based on themselves instead of their children? Were they artists who got so carried away in the creative process that they'd forget you existed at times? Whatever the story, you get the idea. You may or may not love your folks, but you know that if you had it to do over again you certainly wouldn't have picked those two people to be in charge of your early years. The last thing you want to hear is that you might have chosen that upbringing for yourself.

Shift gears with me here, for just a minute. Look into yourself and tell me what you are most proud of. Is it your tenacity? Your ability to pick yourself up and carry on no matter what? Your moxie? Your incredible ability to read other people and know just how to reach out and help them? Your artistic ability to create music that sings to the soul of the lonely and uplift them for just a minute? Your incredible work ethic? Your own ability to really be present and in the moment with your own kids? Sit for a moment and look at the incredible strength and amazing traits that you created for yourself despite your parents.

If I had been the spoiled pampered princess I wanted to be, I would never be able to write for you today. It's because I come from a broken home that I know how important true loving connection is regardless of whether the original two parents are the ones raising you or not. It's because I was under the impression that I was abandoned that I found out how to be strong and independent and no longer clingy and needy. I wouldn't have the pride and self assurance that I can overcome anything life throws at me if I had always had the safety net of family to fall back on. Look into your own life. Would you be the amazing person you are today if you had been raised with a silver spoon and ideal parents?

Initially when we begin our healing process, we can identify what particular flavor of 'screwed up' we are and who's fault it is that we turned out that way. Continuing on the path of healing, we get to a place where we can forgive those who helped create the mess that we became. Finally, we come to realize what a blessing it was that we got to go through that particular journey and to learn those particular lessons and to gain those particular tools and gifts as a result. Then we can be grateful that we chose the parents we did.

Chihuahua Care Handbook - The Ultimate Chihuahua Guide

So, you're convinced that you have zero opportunities to meet men.

Are you stuck in an office all day with the same stiffs day in and day out? Have you tried singles' dances, only to leave feeling worse than when you went in? Did the last loser your aunt set you up with squash your Chihuahua when he screeched up the driveway?

Well, don't fret. I have some ideas for you. While advice columnists steer single women into churches to meet honest, loyal, and successful men, I wouldn't dream of it. Church is great for communing with God, but it never struck me as the best place to meet a man. People, including me, are on our best behavior at church. If you'd rather meet a man where he's more likely to be himself, here are my top three recommendations:

1. A bar, specifically during Monday Night Football. Football season is a great time to meet men who flock to taverns to watch the NFL. When I was single, I loved going to Monday Night Football (even though I didn't really understand the game) because the bar was filled with mostly single men, there was a free buffet, and the atmosphere was merry.

Advice columnists usually tell women to stay out of bars if they want to meet suitable men, but I disagree. It's important to see how a man drinks, and how he behaves under the influence of alcohol. Does he get wasted and drive home? Or, does he have a couple of beers and switch to water before he leaves? Does he smack the bartender in the head when his team loses, or does he remain amiable? There are things you can learn in a bar about a man that you never will in church. Bring a friend with you and make having fun, not hooking up, your first priority. You may have to show up three weeks in a row before anybody shows interest in you (or, then again, maybe not). Keep in mind that different bars attract different types of people. If you don't like the crowd in one bar, try another place next time.

2. A class. I know, I know. You've heard this one before, but have you ever tried it? Let me tell you a story: My friend Brian's longtime girlfriend dropped him for another guy. After grieving for a while, he dusted himself off and signed up for a cooking class. See, Brian loves to cook, but he put off pursuing formal training while he was with What's-Her-Name. Once she was out of the picture, though, he decided to register for a course, figuring he'd meet many likeminded women there. Sure enough, he did. I advise you to write down a list of hobbies you'd like to explore and figure out which of them would also appeal to men. Then sign up for a class or join a club. See what happens.

3. Throw a party. While Brian did meet lots of women at the cooking class, he didn't fall in love with any of them. So he threw a party where he could show off his new skills. He wasn't picky about who he invited and told everybody to bring a friend or two. The result? A woman he'd never met showed up. They fell in love and have been married now for two years. But even if Brian hadn't met his future wife that night, hosting that party netted him plenty of invitations to others, providing opportunities to meet many more people. A caveat: When you plan your party, don't exclude married friends from the guest list. You don't want your big night to feel like a singles' mixer. Instead, invite couples and encourage them to bring a friend.

Remember, the trick to meeting new men is to break up your routine. Step one: Put down the remote. I assure you that the world is full of great single men like Brian who want to meet someone special, and for one of those men, that person is you. Seek and create new social situations. Act naturally. Smile. Whatever you do, don't keep twisting your neck like you're casing the place for a live one. Maintain eye contact with whomever you're talking to, whether it's a man or a woman. Having fun is key. When you're having fun, you'll attract men like a magnet.

ve had a baby, you've no doubt been told to do Kegel exercises, which strengthen the pubococcygeus muscles that form the pelvic floor between the legs. Toning these muscles helps to prevent the onset of incontinence; yet many women skip these exercises altogether or do them incorrectly.

Women going through menopause can experience urinary incontinence due to a lack of estrogen. Once a woman stops menstruating, her body ceases to make estrogen. Estrogen is, in part, responsible for keeping the lining of the bladder and urethra plump and healthy. A lack of estrogen can be responsible for a weakening of the bladder control muscles.

Pressure from coughing, sneezing, or lifting can push urine past the grips of a weakened muscle. Leakage of this type is known as stress incontinence. It is one of the most common types of bladder control problems experienced by older women. If you are experiencing urinary incontinence, you should not self-diagnose your problem. It is important to see a doctor first.

Your obstetrician-gynecologist or medical doctor should first perform a physical exam. Your doctor should be certain that your bladder empties properly, that you don't have a urinary tract infection (UTI) and that you know how to properly contract your pelvic floor or Kegel muscles.

After your doctor has determined that there is no physical deformity, complication or infection, you must next determine which course of action to take. There are three common ways to treat urinary incontinence:

-- learning behavioral techniques -- how to control the muscles of the bladder and the sphincter to prevent leakage.

-- taking medication to replace hormones, stop abnormal bladder muscle contractions or tighten sphincter muscles.

-- performing Kegel exercises to work the pelvic muscles.

In most cases, the most effective and beneficial course of action is to work the Kegel muscles back in to shape. But how is one to do that?

Over 50 years ago, Dr. Arnold Kegel discovered that by clenching and relaxing the muscles used to stop the flow of urine, the pelvic floor (or Kegel) muscles could be strengthened and rehabilitated. Because of this discovery, most people have heard of "Kegel exercises," but what most people do not know is that Dr. Kegel incorporated a device known as the "Kegel Perineometer" that was inserted into the vaginal cavity to measure the contractions and provide feedback to the patient. In this way, the patient was able to monitor the quality of the exercises and be certain that they were being done correctly.

Most women who just "do" kegels have minimal results due to the lack of feedback. There is nothing to tell them if they are doing the exercise properly. The most common problem associated with doing Kegel exercises without feedback is the accidental contraction of the abdominal muscles at the same time as the pelvic floor muscles. When this occurs the abdominal muscles (which are bigger and stronger) push down on the pelvic floor and can actually make the problem worse.

Since it's not likely that the typical family has a Kegel Perineometer lying around, what's a woman to do? Fortunately there is a safe, affordable solution that has been used successfully by over 100,000 women to strengthen their Kegel muscles in the privacy of their own homes.

This device is known as The Kegelmaster. The Kegelmaster is a small, hinged device that is gently slipped three inches into the vagina. Once done, a safety knob is loosened allowing the small spring (or springs) inside to open the hinged device a few degrees. The woman will then squeeze her kegel muscles causing the device to close. The Kegelmaster's two, flat internal surfaces close tightly against one another providing feedback to the user that the exercise has been done correctly and completely.

The Kegelmaster has four positions in which springs can be installed or moved. This allows the user to slowly increase the amount of resistance experienced during each exercise. Exercises can be completed in only a few minutes and results can be seen within a few days and improvement can continue over a few short months. No one should suffer needlessly from this embarrassing problem when a simple, affordable solution is so readily available.

Making healthy food choices is not so hard. All it takes is a little bit of planning to include all your favorite foods. But first, you need to understand the basics of a diabetic diet.

A diabetes diet or meal plan should be based on the specially designed diabetic food pyramid. The diabetes food pyramid groups foods based on their carbohydrate and protein content and not on how they classify as a food. Foods are divided into six groups, with fats, oils and sweets on the very top (so eat less of these) and bread, cereals, pasta and rice on the bottom (so eat more of these).

Breads, cereals and the like are foods that are high in carbohydrates. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) suggests 6-11 servings per day. Sample servings are: 1 slice of bread; �½ cup dry cereal or 1/3 cup of rice or pasta.

Vegetables should also be eaten in plenty as they are naturally low in fat and a high in fibre, not to mention vitamins and minerals. The ADA suggests eating 3-5 servings per day. A sample serving is 1 cup of vegetables (raw) or �½ cup (cooked). Fruits are also recommended, so add about 2-4 servings, which translates to about 1 small fresh fruit or �½ cup canned fruit. Eat a little less of meat and beware of foods like potato chips, candy, cookies, which have high levels of sugar and fat.

Your fat and sugar intake should be limited. The ADA suggests keeping servings very small (sample serving size is �½ cup of ice cream or 2 small cookies) and to keep them for a special treat.

A quick Internet search for "Diabetes diet" or "Cooking for people with diabetes" brings up numerous dietary suggestions in the form of recipe books to buy and have at home or online diet recipes which you can print out and use. The ADA has a "Recipe of the Day" section with lots of great ideas targeted at those living with diabetes or friends of diabetics. As for books, the ADA recommends "Mr.

I discovered my need to write and gather inspiring stories about baseball as I drove on route 80 in Northern New Jersey in February 2004. I started thinking about the movies I have seen and the stories I have read that I loved. Why did I like these stories? What was "My" definition of a great story? I was fixed on finding an answer. I started thinking about the movie "Field of Dreams", one of my all time favorites. Why did I like this corny movie so much? Was Field of Dreams a metaphor for living your field of dreams? Was creating a clearing done to allow the dreams to show up? In the movie they cleared away a crop of corn to build a baseball field. Do we need to clear away some of our own corn fields to see the dreams that capture our hearts and then create a path to reach those dreams? This movie has been an inspiration for me to pursue my baseball dreams.

Following my heart is what I love best about what I am doing.

Field of Dreams is the only movie I have seen in my adult life ( that's if you consider me an adult)that I have been to the movie theater more than once to see.

So I invite you to follow your passion. Whether you are "The Rookie" or "The Natural" what are your "Field of Dreams?" Where can your passion reverberate for you?

I feel so thankful that I have been able to capture my dream at this time. I hope you do as well.

In the news lately have been horrific stories of Child Molesters who have stolen the innocence from children and in many cases killed them in cold blood. After doing some research on this, I noticed that one of the most common names for child molester criminals was Ed or Edward. Each time a child is abducted the night-time news follows the story, occasionally it is a happy ending, but all too often ends in tragedy. Can it be possible that some first names carry with them baggage from the childhood sand box? Psychological issues which lead to depression, sexual frustration and later impotency?

We know that certain names do affect one's personality and can even influence their career choices. Could it be possible it could lead a man to molest our children? Is it possible that this could be true? I did not believe it at first, yet as I began to study the name Ed or Edward with the vast numbers of child molesters, I was shocked indeed. What kind of a sick mind and weak individual would do that to a child. I cannot think of a worse example of a human being.

Here are a few examples of Child Molesters named Edward, really there are just too many to list. Even many who have middle names of Edward were found in the search. Cullen was named in another child molestation suit. Edward Stokes another convicted child molester serving a life sentence until he was freed and then guess what he did? Eric Edward Boice was convicted of child molestation and aggravated charges. Edward Fisher from South Carolina is also a convicted pedophile. Edward Lyle Knowles, Sr, was convicted of child molestation. Edward Lyle Knowles, Jr. was arrested and charged with rape and molestation. Donald Edward Cobern is a home improvement carpet cleaner and had three prior convictions involving sexual assaults against female children and uses his inside home cleaning and home improvement business to gain access to homes. This is typical of some of the hit and run tactics they use. Others as mentioned are in professions such a instructors of music, teachers, photographer and when their homes are searched after such incidents generally hundreds if not thousands of naked child porn is found.

Many times convicted child molesters will carefully disguise or find ways to keep from revealing their identities and create a low profile, while continuing their molesting and hunting of young children to molest. Those who have the name Edward; often alter between the name Ed or Edward and are careful to conceal themselves; it becomes so natural that often they will forget and do it within the same conversation. Why is it that names such as Edward and Ed seem to be so common amongst the most disgraceful and despicable examples of our species? One has to ask, there has to be something to this? Have you ever felt paralyzed or crippled by fear? As a businesswoman, producer, and model through my various business ventures, I've felt fearful from time to time. And I'm sure that, like me, you've found that you can accomplish little when you're afraid -- and almost nothing if you let fear of what might happen seize you. Fear freezes the mind, erases possibilities and clouds opportunities; and it makes most matters we're fearful about seem disproportionately greater than our ability to deal with them.

However, I've learned that you and I have the ability to put fear in its rightful place -- a place where we don't have to stay. Yet sometimes situations we're frightened about have to get worse before things can get better. Sometimes not until something or someone hurts us and/or wounds us badly or deeply enough do we realize that we have to go beyond fear to make a change.

I remember vividly some of the most unpleasant challenges I've had to face to earn respect and defeat fear. In 1987, I moved from my homeland, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Vancouver, Canada, to continue high school for post-secondary education. I found myself a stranger there -- a funny looking "foreign" girl with a bad haircut and poor English skills. And soon, I became the prime target for the supposedly "cool" high school kids around me to antagonize. And believe me, they did their best to make my life miserable. I couldn't hide from them; they seemed to be everywhere, taunting me. They'd throw objects at me from behind my back; they'd push and trip me when I wasn't looking. They'd sabotage my every chance to be part of any extra school activity I wanted to pursue; they'd point at me and laugh, call me names, and torment me in countless other ways, too.

But because I was extremely unfamiliar with Canadian culture and lifestyles, and for fear that I might say or do something wrong, I decided I'd just tolerate the situation. Though I was already a competitive martial arts fighter in the process of earning my second black belt in Karate, (a sport I've been involved in since I was eight years old), I didn't feel that I should utilize those skills. Again, I feared I might provoke my tormentors further and possibly even incite them to extend harm to my family.

So during most of those high school years I allowed emotions like fear, loneliness, anxiety, anger and sadness to consume me. Yet eventually even those feelings, however negative, forced me to find courage to turn my situation in positive directions, and as a result I can now help others in similar circumstances to do the same.

I decided that every time my tormentors tried to start a fight with me, I would look each of them in the eyes and just calmly walk away. What worse could happen than that they'd push me, laugh and call me names? However, one afternoon, things did turn worse.

That afternoon I felt a couple of small objects hit the back of my head. As usual, bursts of laughter behind my back followed, and I continued on my way, refusing to even acknowledge this petty behavior. But this time I made no effort to keep my eyes on my tormentors as I walked away. Suddenly one of them decided to run up and strike me in the left eye. In an instant, I realized that she had crossed a boundary and endangered a vital organ of my body, and this I simply couldn't ignore. Before she could blink, with a crowd of students as my witnesses, I unleashed a kick that dropped her to the ground. Quickly, two of her friends leaped at me to defend her. Soon they, too, were picking themselves up, and then all three made a run for it, leaving me standing there. Now I began to feel the throbbing pain in my left eye -- and discovered that it was bleeding.

For many years, I'd tried to avoid confrontations with my tormentors. But that afternoon they'd made confrontation inevitable, and I had put fear aside and finally let them know who I truly was. Now I wondered what the consequences of my retaliation would be.

Shortly after the fight I was called into the principal's office. There I was told that the three girls who started the fight had been suspended from school. The other students who'd witnessed the encounter had reported the story of the attack and my self-defense. Luckily for me, they all supported my actions. I was free to return to class unpunished.

After that day, things took a clear turn for the better. My "tormentors" stopped harassing me; from then on they only looked away whenever I passed by them. When a new school year began, some of them left to attend different schools, though some of them remained at my school. Some of them even stopped being each other's friends -- and others decided to start greeting me with smiles. That year -- my last -- in high school, I finally was

able to make some good friends, direct numerous extracurricular activities, coach the basketball and volleyball teams and even serve as captain of the cheerleading squad.

As my life has unfolded since then, throughout my varied career I've had many fortunate opportunities to assist diverse groups of women through some of their own challenging moments in life. Of course, through these experiences, I've broadened my own knowledge about career, socializing, love, relationships, family and much more. Along the way I've been able, in turn, to assist, inspire and empower a great number of women along their journeys in life, for which they've pointedly thanked me in one way or another. And whether they know it or not, their exercise of courage that made their lives better, plus their trust in me, have been all the thanks I've ever needed. They've truly inspired me to constantly grow, transform and become a better person.

A few years ago, while I was out of town, Lidiya, an assistant in one of the companies I founded, hired two new recruits to join our team. She formally introduced me to them when I returned from my trip. One recruit happened to be a chief "tormentor" of mine from high school.

She didn't recognize me until Lidiya introduced me by my first and last names. Then, my former tormentor's jaw dropped and her face froze. But I reached out and shook her hand and welcomed her to our team. Later, she approached me abashedly and tried to apologize for what had happened in the past. I told her not to worry; it was quite all right with me. To help her feel comfortable, I then took her out for lunch. When we got back to the office, I jokingly told her, "Get back to work now!" and we laughed together. Since then, she's become one of my most cherished workers.

Can you see how learning to make the best of every situation, including that painful one at school, has led me to discover something great -- that courage begins with character? Courage not only means being able to do something new, it also means being able to be someone new. The ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in moments of comfort, but where they stand in times of challenge and controversy. I've come to learn that growing into a good, solid character requires rising to levels of self-esteem that so many of us doubt we have.

One way by which you can enhance your own self-esteem is to do as I did, and make it really clear to those around you who you truly are. When you know who you truly are, and act based on who you truly are, you'll realize, as I did back then in high school, that no one can harm you unless you choose to keep them around and allow them to trouble you.

What's the point in spending hours preparing a newsletter, message or report if it's automatically filtered into the junk folder before the recipient even sees it?

Spam threatens to choke the communication channels promising global freedom of expression.

Internet Service Providers (ISPs), corporate server administrators and end users are increasingly using new anti-spam technology to try to stem the relentless tide of junk email flooding the Net.

The problem is: how can we prevent the dolphins from being caught along with the sharks?

The origin of &spam'

SPAM is a pink canned luncheon meat immortalised in Monty Python's spam-loving Vikings sketch.

In an Internet context, lowercase spam refers to unsolicited commercial or bulk email (such as get-rich-quick schemes, miracle cures, weight loss, Viagra, lotteries, loans, pornography and Nigerian sob stories) and allegedly originated in a MUD/MUSH community.

Of more practical use is the origin of the actual spam mail itself.

Where does all the junk come from?

In the mid-90s, Usenet newsgroups (also called "discussion groups" or "bulletin boards") were the number one source of email addresses for spammers.

Today, the most common origin is web pages, especially if they're listed in a search engine or directory.

Some people have tried foiling address-seeking spambots by inserting the word "UNSPAM" in capitals in the middle of all email addresses on their sites. This stops auto spammers working but enables human beings to work out what to do.

Spammers also harvest addresses from headers of messages you send to friends who forward them to their friends (a good reason for using BCC -- blind carbon copy rather than simple CC which displays all recipients - although some people filter out mail sent using BCC as many spammers also use it).

Other sources include open e-mail discussion lists and web pages that invite you to "insert your address here to be on a 'do not mail' list".

Spammers can simply guess addresses by generating lists of popular names and random words attached to common domains (bob@aol.com, john@hotmail.com).

Once on a spam list, the only way to get off is to change addresses.

If you reply or respond to instructions to "remove", your message will simply confirm your address is valid and you'll get even more junk.

Depending on your email client, you can try tracing junk back to its owner by contacting the server listed in the full message header information (the From address is generally fake - check your Help files to find out how to "reveal full headers").

How to stop spam

Despite legislation against unsolicited commercial email, the volume of junk is increasing alarmingly.

The simplistic oft-cited fix -- "just hit delete" -- is only a bandaid solution and fails to discourage the junk merchants.

Self-regulation and industry codes are difficult to enforce. ISPs face problems if they disconnect service to spammers under some countries' telecommunications laws.

Technical solutions have centred on filtering technology.

Types of filters

Many corporations and ISPs filter incoming mail on or after delivery.

Server-side filtering software typically looks at the headers, subject line and/or contents of the message.

Some filters -- and their users -- are smarter than others.

SpamAssassin is an open-source, collaborative, community anti-spam effort based on filtering rules to analyse email content.

The software gives each message a score based on how many rules it breaks.

Any programmer can suggest rules for new releases of the software which spots, not blocks, spam.

ISPs and server administrators then decide whether to send suspect mail to junk folders, automatically delete mail tagged as spam, or bounce it back to sender.

Unfortunately for email publishers, some of the filter rules are too broad or the threshold is set too low.

Many innocent messages are being lumped in with the guilty.

One of my newsletter readers notified me that his ISP had tagged a recent issue as spam -

Even if you can identify the problems that raised your score, you can do little about it.

E-Newsletters That Work

Best practice in e-newsletter publishing -- and now law in many countries -- is to enable your readers to unsubscribe easily yet the word "unsubscribe" or similar would lead to your newsletter being blocked by filters such as SpamAssassin.

Just look at the seemingly innocuous words on the constantly changing list of tests SpamAssassin performs on mail messages to determine whether they're spam.

A growing number of email users also filter their own inboxes by setting up rules to delete messages containing certain keywords or punctuation (for instance, the phrase, "This is not spam", which is among the most commonly used phrase in junk email).

Some desktop applications, such as MailShield and MailWasher, pre-set the rules and tag or delete mail without the user having to do anything.

Some client-side filters prioritise mail into different folders.

To ensure they receive wanted mail, email users can add favourite mailing lists to a "white" or "green" list so the mail ends up in a specific folder.

The problem with email filtering

and unpredictable email filtering, as with web content filtering, can backfire and cost time, money and frustration -- the very things filters were designed to save.

Tracking down problems and dealing with aggravated users or administrators wastes resources that could be spent creating content, marketing and improving customer service.

Many filters can be imposed only after you have received unsolicited email from each source, meaning you have to respond manually to every single spammer.

Spammers regularly change their email addresses to bypass filters.

"Qualitative" filters can try to detect junk mail from unknown sources but legitimate mail can be inadvertently trashed in the process ("false positives") while some junk mail still gets through ("false negatives").

Filters are becoming a serious problem with many legitimate opt-in publishers being mistaken for spammers and blacklisted.

Once on a black list, the only way to be unblocked is to contact the ISP and ask to be placed on a white list.

While some e-newsletter publishing tools let you monitor how many messages are opened or bounced, you might never know which readers are being filtered unless you know which email program they're using.

Even then, the recipient might just be busy, uninterested, on leave or not receiving your message.

Some filter programs don't even notify you that your message was blocked while others bounce back mail with "sensitive" content without specifying the rejected words.

On another occasion my own free weekly e-newsletter was blocked on its way to at least two subscribers thanks to Trend SMEX Content Filter detecting "sensitive content" yet the "naughtiest" word I could find was "teenage".

Pity the poor medical publishers who often use "controversial" words such as "breast" or "penis" in their newsletters.

You might be able to track down the reason you were blocked by examining the full header information (ask your subscribers to forward the entire copy of your junked message).

The header should list filter rules that the message violated, if the ISP uses software such as SpamAssassin.

If not filtering, then what?

Some online publishers advocate web services where you submit your newsletters for screening of content or technical problems that might trigger spam filters before mailing.

Of course, spammers could also abuse such a service to get their own mail past the filters.

Others back the idea of an Internet-wide white list along the lines of web site privacy site TRUSTe.

Simple letters, direct mail, mail order, offline marketing

Spam-busting campaigners believe the only effective method of addressing the problem is through simple, direct legislation to:

Ban the practice of transmitting unsolicited bulk email
Ban the sale and marketing of spamming tools
Provide a right of action and damages to the recipient
Express damages in terms of penalty units
Provide for damages to be trebled for wanton violations
Cover offshore spamming by local interests, and
Attach to the outgoing revenue stream of foreign interests, which spam locals for the benefit of the spammers' revenue stream.

Meanwhile, ashile the world waits for more countries to introduce tough anti-spam legislation, online publishers must continue to be vigilant.

How to avoid the junk folder

Choose the subject line and words in your emails carefully if you don't want to end up in the junk file.

More people are setting up their email programs to filter incoming mail automatically for classic junk mail keywords and symbols (eg "advertisement", "free", "rich", "porn", "lover,", "opt-in," "e-mail", "money-back guarantee", "teen", "sex", ! # or $, removal instructions, all capitals).

Drop all hype and advertising-speak from your subject lines and messages.

Apart from saving you from the filters, honest concise text is preferred by the impatient, overloaded online reader.

Online publishers wishing to avoid being trashed should send a welcome message to new subscribers or correspondents telling them how your messages will appear (eg "the newsletter will appear from yvette@brizcomm.com.au") and suggesting they add the address to the white or green list of their email program.

Set up test accounts with popular email providers such as AOL, Yahoo and HotMail to see if your messages are getting through.

Beware Microsoft Outlook's "junk e-mail filters" which, when turned on, colour or delete messages considered spam based on a filters.txt file.

I searched for the filters.txt file on my PC to see which words were no-gos and was surprised to see so many seemingly harmless words.

Use a professional list hosting service unless you can afford an experienced in-house support staff.

E-newsletter publishing is becoming a highly specialised and complex field - don't risk your reputation to amateurs.

Ensure your list host monitors other clients to ensure they're publishing to only opt-in recipients -- if opt-out mailers, rental lists and spammers are blacklisted, you might be guilty by association.

Insist on detailed bounce reports for every issue you send out.

You should be able to see which names bounced and the exact reasons (eg "mailbox full", "address does not exist" or the frustrating "unknown").

Just because your bounce report says your mail was delivered, doesn't mean it did.

Many filters stop email after the "not-bounced" signal has been sent.

Monitor your open and clickthrough reports for unusual patterns.

Read all reader feedback, particularly if readers are having trouble subscribing or getting your mail.

Chances are they might have to ask (or scream at) their ISP or techies to add you to a white list.

(Of course, you need to publish quality content if you want your readers to jump up and down when they don't get it.)

Many permission-based publishers include their newsletter or trademark in square brackets in the subject line to avoid being filtered.

Other ethical publishers, including me, have resorted to disguising known filter trigger words by inserting unusual characters or deliberate typos -- for instance, using f^ee instead of free or sp*m instead of spam.

It's just a matter of time before the spammers work around these "tricks".

Bastardising or censoring our language to suit new communications technology would seem an extreme solution -- not to mention bitterly ironic -- but what's the alternative?

The Expert Sleeper � Seven Steps To Getting The Sleep You Need

First drafts are for getting down the ideas. Anna Jacobs calls the first draft the 'dirty draft'. Jenny Crusie calls it the 'don't-look-down draft'. The most important thing is to get it written.

Then comes editing and polishing. Some writers love this stage: they can roll up their sleeves and start whipping that book into shape. Others are not so keen. They'd rather have a tooth extracted than sit down and write another word. Unfortunately, a 'dirty draft' is the equivalent of a tooth with a cavity - it needs fixing or it will cause a lot of pain!

There are any number of things you should be looking for when you're editing. If we tried to cover them all here, this would be a book and not a tipsheet. So we'll limit ourselves to four, all of which come under the heading of "Variety".

Vary Your Sentence Beginnings

This is particularly important when you are using the first person. More than one writer has written a desperate note on work sent in for me to critique, saying something like "I seem to be saying I, I, I all the time... but how can I avoid it when I'm writing in the first person?"

Yes, it can be a challenge. But once you learn the strategies for getting around this problem, you'll find yourself automatically making the necessary changes as you write.

An Example

I staggered into the bathroom, cursing the person who invented daylight saving. I needed sleep. Lots more sleep. I was aware, of course, that an hour wouldn't make much difference; not when I'd been up half the night. But what was the use of having an hour chopped off the morning? I wondered whether anybody actually did anything with that hour when it turned up again in the afternoon.

We have four sentences starting with "I" in the above example, and one "I'd". This might not look like a lot in this short sample - but if the frequency of the personal pronoun 'I' continued at this level, the reader would probably find it a bit tiresome.

It's easy to change. Look for (a) opportunities to simply drop the word "I" and (b) ways to restructure the sentence so it's not necessary. We'll rewrite the above:

Easy. With a few simple changes, we've cut out three instances of the word "I". Much more acceptable! And by tapping directly into the viewpoint character's thoughts instead of saying "I wondered" and "I was aware", we're moving deeper into viewpoint, and therefore achieving more reader involvement.

Check carefully for your use of the personal pronoun in all your work. It's all too easy to start sentence after sentence with "She", "He", "I" or "They".

Vary Sentence Structure

Check your sentences to make sure they're not all following the same structure. You saw in the above example how easy it is to change things around so sentences don't all begin with the same word. It's just as simple to make sure they don't all have the same rhythm.

Example

"I don't want you to think I'm not sympathetic," he said, leaning on the kitchen counter.

"Of course not," she replied, crashing the pan down in the sink.

"I do understand what you're saying," he went on, adopting that conciliatory tone she hated so much. "But I have needs too."

"Yes, I know that, Tim," she said through gritted teeth, blasting hot water into the dirty pan.

This is all getting a bit dull. There's a lot going on, but we're almost in a state of torpor because of the predictable rhythm. Throughout this passage, we have:

[direct speech] + [speech tag] + action or clarification.

Let's try a variation:

"I don't want you to think I'm not sympathetic." Tim leaned on the kitchen counter, idly clicking a pen.

Alana crashed the pan down into the sink. "Of course not."

"I do understand what you're saying. But I have needs too."

His voice had that conciliatory tone that made her want to slap him. "Yes, I know that, Tim." She wrenched on the tap and sent hot water blasting into the dirty pan.

We have (a) changed the placement of the dialogue; (b) eliminated several unnecessary speech tags and (c) relocated her reaction to his tone of voice to the paragraph containing her words, not his words. Small changes - but a big effect.

Vary Sentence Length

This sounds easy - but judging by the thousands of scenes I've critiqued, it's not as simple as it looks. The worst offenders are writers who like to construct long, flowing sentences with lots of commas, dashes, semi-colons and colons. These might have been de rigeur in Jane Austen's day, but most modern readers would doze off. Worse, they'd get lost. You risk the meaning being obscured by long, unnecessarily complex sentences. It's quite likely those long sentences would also be grammatically incorrect.

Example

Allow me to reconstruct the previous paragraph into one sentence to show you what I mean:

This sounds easy - but judging by the thousands of scenes I've critiqued, it's not as simple as it looks: the worst offenders being writers who like to construct long, flowing sentences with lots of commas, dashes, semi-colons, and colons... these might have been de rigeur in Jane Austen's day, but most modern readers would doze off - worse, they'd get lost: you risk the meaning being obscured by long, unnecessarily complex sentences (which are also likely to be grammatically incorrect).

Phew. I feel the need to take a long gulp of air after just typing that one.

Just as annoying are writers who like to write a succession of sentence fragments. Like this. One after the other. Like machine-gun fire. It drives readers nuts.

Sentence fragments, used sparingly, can be very effective. They do a good job of reflecting the fragmented nature of most people's thoughts. Overused, they arouse homicidal instincts in the reader. Be warned!

Bottom line: vary your sentence length. Avoid long, wordy sentences and use sentence fragments wisely. Most of the time, write grammatically correct sentences that are appropriate for the style and tone of your chosen genre.

Vary The "Voice" Of Your Characters

Here's a good writing exercise for you.

Jot down the names of four people you know with very different personalities.
Imagine each has had a bad experience with a sales assistant or a tradesman.
Now write a page in which each recounts their experience. Try to get the dialogue to reflect that person's personality without torturing words to reflect dropped aitches or dialect etc.
Read your work aloud. Does each person (character) sound like an individual?

In summary: when you edit your work, make sure that your characters don't use the same sentence patterns, the same slang or the same pet phrases.

Voice Over IP (VOIP) has the potential to completely revolutionise the way the worlds phone systems operate. There are many VOIP service providers that have been around for a while, and are growing steadily. Now the worlds leading telecommunications operators are waking up to the endless possibilities of this new technology, setting up VOIP calling centres around the world and promoting the sales of Voice Over IP phone systems.

Making a call

With VOIP phone systems it is possible to make a call in one of three ways:

ATA (gateway) - The simplest way to make a VOIP phone call is through the use of ATA's (analogue telephone adaptor) sometimes called gateways. These devices enable you to make use of your existing standard analogue phones. You simply plug your standard handset into the ATA (gateway) then connect the ATA to your computer or your internet connection, enabling you to make VOIP calls. An ATA takes the analogue signal from your standard phone and turns it into a digital signal that ready for transmission over the internet. Some ATA's (gateways) come with additional software that is loaded onto a host computer, enabling you to configure it for VOIP accurately.

IP Phones - These handsets look just like normal standard handsets. They have an RJ 45 Ethernet connector instead of the standard RJ 11 connectors. These phones have all the necessary software and hardware to handle VOIP calls already built in them. They connect directly to your router, providing a very fast and cost effective entry into the world of Voice Over IP.

Computer to computer - This is the easiest way to make use of the VOIP technology. There are many companies offering cost effective software that you can use for this type of VOIP. Usually the only charge you pay is the monthly one from your internet service provider, even for long distance calls. All you need is a microphone, speakers, a suitable sound card and a fast internet connection.

Chances are that you have already made a VOIP call without even realising it. The major phone companies already use VOIP to route thousands of long distance calls through a circuit switch and into an IP gateway. This is then received by a gateway at the other end and then routed to another local circuit switch. More and more companies are installing VOIP phone systems, and the technology will grow and grow until it finds its way into every business and household across the globe.

VoIP Features

Because with VOIP you can make calls from anywhere you have access to a broadband connection, users can take their IP phones or ATA's with them on trips and still have access to what is essentially their home phone.

Some people use a softphone to access their VOIP service. A softphone is a specially developed software application that loads the VOIP service onto your desktop computer or laptop. Some even have an interface on the screen that looks like a traditional phone. These softphone applications allow you to place VOIP calls from your laptop; anywhere in the world you have access to a broadband connection.

Most traditional phone companies charge you for extra features that are added to your account. With VOIP service providers these usually come as standard. Features such as:

1. Caller ID

2. Call Waiting

3. Call Transfer

4. Repeat Dialling

5. Return Call

6. Three-Way Dialling

Some VOIP service providers also offer advanced call filtering features. These additional features allow you to decide how calls to a specific number are handled by using caller ID information. They allow you to:

1. Forward the call to a particular number

2. Send the call directly to voicemail

3. Give the caller a busy signal

4. Play a "not-in-service" message

Many VOIP services also allow you to check your voicemail over the internet or attach messages to an e-mail that is sent to your computer or PDA. It's best to check with VOIP phone system suppliers and service operators exactly what features they offer as package and service prices vary greatly.

There are many other cost saving benefits that arise from a streamlined VOIP phone system network. For the network administrators, a VOIP phone system means they only have one network to maintain instead of two. The portability of the phone system is also greatly simplified. This is because most VOIP phone systems can be configured using a web interface, which can be managed by the network administrator. The MAC (move, add, change) process is made much easier, and you will not have to call your system/service provider for every MAC you carry out. All this means lower ongoing costs for your company.

Another cost saving for companies who implement a VOIP system is, because multiple offices, no matter where they are in the world are seamlessly connected, they can share many of the features VOIP can offer, such as:

1. One single receptionist

2. Auto attendant facilities

3. Voice mail system

Choosing a VOIP phone system

If you have decided that a VOIP phone system is the right step for your company, next you need to determine which of your existing telephone equipment you are able to keep. The potential cost savings that can be made through using any existing digital equipment are huge. Many digital phone systems can be IP enabled using minor hardware additions and software upgrades.

When shopping around for potential systems you need to be certain of the features they provide as standard and which are optional cost extras. You also need to be certain of exactly what is included with the system. Many suppliers claim to include everything you need, but standard components can vary from one company to the other. So you need to sure you are comparing equivalent systems when approaching potential suppliers.

You will also need to enquire about the compatibility of existing equipment. The technology used in many VOIP systems may affect the implementation of any existing telephone hardware.

You will also need to ensure that any devices such as fax machines, credit card processors, and security systems etc can be integrated into your new VOIP phone system. You should make any potential vendor aware of such devices so they can provide you with a suitable phone system for your requirements.

Finally, do not try to save money by buying used VOIP phone systems. Remember VOIP is a new technology, so even last years equipment is outdated. Also the installation cost will still apply whether the system is new or second hand, and the service costs may even be higher due to reliability issues. To put it simply it just isn't worth the hassle, the higher secondary costs will wipe out any potential saving.

Oil Change Guys History; Part III. Write Possibilities.

Studying the history of franchise companies is interesting is watching all the ways they grew and all the partnerships, vendors and mergers along the way. It is a myriad of deals and team building, which makes it all possible. Continuing Part III of the saga:

Mr. Winslow offered to buy an Oil Change Company out of Tampa Florida, a franchise system, with only three franchisees, one of which was in a market we also serviced with our Car Wash Guys Franchise in Jacksonville, FL. The Jacksonville franchisee of the Mister Mobile On-site Oil Change Company was not doing so hot and we knew we could fix that, since we had tons of contacts there and were already kicking the crap out of our competition FleetWash in Gainesville, Tallahassee and Jacksonville. We figured we could buy the company, hire back the founder in Tampa for training and fix the customer base issue in Jacksonville.

Unfortunately the founder of that company Mister Mobile On-site Oil Company, Dave Hendelson, did not want to work anymore and wanted to retire and coming to terms on the price of the franchise system was another issue. Meanwhile we learned that the Owner of the Tampa Franchise On-Site Oil Change was a former franchisee who never paid royalties and the former Franchisor who went out of business was suing him for stealing the proprietary rights of the system. So defending that lawsuit would have to be figured into the price as well as taking over many leased vehicles which were financed by sleazy leasing companies and had left the owner upside down in payment to value ratios. A prefect scenario ruined by litigation and bad fiscal policy. Mr. Winslow was getting a little upset at this point as many of the current franchisees of Car Wash Guys, www.carwashguys.com were asking to add on these services.

Lance was determined not to give up knowing the market potential and also studying the needs of future Hydrogen Cell and Electric Hybrid Cars, which would be needing other services such as special filters, capacitors and carbon tipped injector nozzles, which are wearable parts too. Knowing this Lance contacted Oil Butler for a possible acquisition only to find out that they knew what their company was worth and would only be interested in the case of a large sum proposal. They were right not to want to sell as they were doing quite well in that market indeed.

In fact as he learned more, Mr. Winslow became more excited at the potential and lack of organized competition. Many of the original Oil Butler Franchisees had gone out of business. Which was typical of low cost franchises were the buyers did not take the businesses as seriously due to the small investment. Such issues were prevalent during the high-flying 90's with other companies such as Decorating Den. But Oil Butler had an extremely good program. Oil Butler had a good deal for a franchisee who wanted to save a little money and get into their own business, with dedication it works. Oil Butler is such a low cost franchise it is a very low risk opportunity for many people and we actually recommend it for those who cannot afford our franchise.

Lance then contacted Location Lube who offered to customize their units to Oil Change Guys Corporate Yellow and put on our insignia. Also with this deal they would guarantee financing and training all for about 30% mark-up. However Mr. Winslow was concerned because Location Lube had their own brand and any innovations such as patented oil additives, customization or marketing techniques would be given to all the Location Lube "Biz Op" customers and thus fall into competitors hands. Lance was also worried that the Location Lube website had earnings claims on it that could not be substantiated and therefore for a franchise company it might be considered a violation of FTC laws, and by that time Mr. Winslow had, had just about enough BS from that agency. Location Lube did not have to follow franchise law as they were a Business Opportunity and under a different set of laws entirely.

Still looking for the perfect partner and determined to either find them or build his own franchise system to co-brand with Mr. Winslow's current one, he scheduled a meeting near the Dallas Airport in Irving Texas with George of Mobile Pitstop. Mobile Pitstop seemed to have everything Lance needed to fulfill his vision and help the synergies of the market by bundling all the mobile auto and fleet services into one giant and un beatable team. Unfortunately when George came to meet Lance, George's first comment offended Lance's wife. Mr. Winslow was willing to over look the comment provided George could deliver. During the meeting Lance got the feeling that the oil additive "Oil Extreme" was not only over priced but was typically sold the same way Rockefeller's dad sold his snake oil and during the entire meeting Lance could not get out of his head the comment George made as it was demeaning to all women. Lance kept thinking back to the Rockefeller Biography and Rockefeller's dad who kept two wives. To top it all off George refused to discuss the possibilities of The Oil Change Guys using anything but Oil Extreme, which costs nearly triple the price of any oil on the market and in many case five times the amount. Understanding the consumer, Mr. Winslow realized that his franchisees would have little or no profit margin left if they only used Oil Extreme only, as some customers buy on price because oil changes are a necessity and not an impulse buy like his auto detailing franchise; The Detail Guys www.detailguys.com .

George, at the all you can eat rib place, during lunch, flipped through a picture book as if he was trying to sign Lance up as an Amway Distributor. Lance was getting quite upset with the situation having driven 1600 miles from the East Coast to meet George half way in Texas with only three hours of sleep before the meeting. Mr. Winslow had driven the trip non-stop and got a ticket in one of those notorious Texas Speed Traps. Two-thirds the way through lunch George said that the service vans had to have the checker board design with large logos of Oil Extreme and could not be yellow. Lance was so upset he swore at George pounded on the table and announced the negotiations over, took back all of his information, including a gift of an out of print 1945 book "The Golden Age" By J. Paul Getty and told George, I will see you in the market place. Mr. Winslow wants to crush his competition. Most franchisors have competitiveness amongst their biggest traits. To be continued. . .

2. Be sure you know your own boundaries - and tell him.

3. Remember everyone has a life, all lives have baggage, and nobody wants to carry your load too.

4. Be yourself and be comfortable.

5. If he's not your type, cut him loose and let him fly. If you're not his type don't take it personally.

More than anything, have fun, don't get serious too fast, and pursue your own life interests - NOT his.

It's surprisingly common - you're exercising, everything's fine, and then POW - a headache strikes! Or, sometimes, a headache hits while you're exercising. Is it just a minor annoyance? Or could it be a signal that something serious is going on? Should you go to the doctor, or just shrug it off?

Circulation - Not Tension - Headaches

If you already suffer from headaches or migraine, it may just be that your exercise is starting the headache chain-reaction. In that case, it's important to look at the overall picture and make sure you're getting the treatment you need for headaches. Your doctor may recommend a pain killer to take just before you exercise, to stop the pain before it starts. In the case of migraine, this is called an "effort migraine", and it's very common. A throbbing headache in the back of your head may be an "exertion headache", which again usually requires some pain killers and is not serious.

But after exercise headache can be a warning that something serious is going on. As a general rule of thumb, if you get a new headache after you exercise, you should see a doctor right away. Any sudden change when it comes to headache could be a sign of something serious, so don't wait.

Some of the more serious headaches have to do with the blood vessels in the head. A headache after exercise could indicate an abnormality in the blood vessels themselves, or could warn you of a brain hemorrhage (or haemorrhage) (blood flow when blood vessels break).

But the one thing I was not feeling was worried that my little girl was exposed to toxic chemicals that most of us use in our homes. Two years ago we made the switch to all natural non-toxic cleaning products.

Up until a few years ago, most household and commercially purchased cleaning products were "petro-chemically" derived or "synthetic". These types of products are literally made from crude petroleum oil. As our use of these cleaners in our homes, schools, and workplaces has grown over the last 60 years, the incidence of diseases like cancer and asthma has grown dramatically as well, and many experts see a clear connection between the two. It's a picture vividly painted by the numbers: From 1973 to 1998, the overall incidence of cancer increased by almost 25%. In the last 20 years, asthma rates have skyrocketed almost 50%. Certainly organizing any household can be difficult, but when your home is also your office, the challenge can be overwhelming. Statistics show there are more than 25 million income-generating home offices in the U.S., and the number is growing.

As someone who has worked from a home office for over 20 years and a mother with five grown children, I've undoubtedly made every mistake possible. The joy and flexibility of working at home can quickly turn your house into a prison unless you take some preventive measures. Consider these tips to make living and working at home less stressful and more productive:

1. Position your office location carefully. If at all possible, separate your workplace from your living space, so you can physically leave your work. If you're working at home in order to take

care of children, consider hiring childcare while you work - studies show your work productivity (and potential for profit) will increase, and so will the quality of life for your children.

2. Continually eliminate clutter. For years I have fought the myth that being organized means being a neatnik. When you remove the old batteries, loose change, dried-up pens, keys to unknown places, expired coupons, and postage stamps of strange denominations from the kitchen junk drawer, what you have left is useful. If there's a paperclip mixed in with the keys, it doesn't really matter. You can organize it more - and it will be easier to keep organized if you do, but it isn't a necessity. Clutter is frequently excess, and excess cannot be organized!

3. Choose a calendar system that works for you. If you're working at home, chances are it's difficult to tell when business ends and home begins - so you'll probably want a calendar or planner system that encompasses both your personal and professional life. In addition, create a method for sharing information that all the family needs to know. It may be something as simple as a calendar on the refrigerator with a different color pen for each member of the family.

4. Develop a system for meals to suit your style. The need to eat can create chaos or increase quality of life, depending upon how you approach it. I used to think that because I was a professional organizing consultant, I should have all my meals for the week planned by Sunday night. I soon discovered that even though my meal plan said it was spaghetti night, I wasn't in the mood. Now, I keep lots of staples on hand so I can create something delightful with the perishables I bought over the weekend.

5. Create separate filing systems for your personal life and professional life. Research shows that the average person spends 150 hours per year looking for misplaced information. And, certainly nothing creates a family crisis faster than a 15-year- old who needs a copy of his birth certificate to get into driver's Ed training, and you can't find it! If it fits in a file, put it there - and keep a list of your files, called a File Index - so you, or someone else, can find it when needed. (Kiplinger's Taming the Paper Tiger software creates the index automatically, and allows you to find anything you file or store in five seconds or less.

6. Get enough sleep. According to sleep experts, in order to be fully productive, you need to spend one-third of your life in bed. Many of us say, "I don't have time to sleep" - but research shows we can't afford to continually deprive ourselves and others who suffer because of our sleep deprivation. Sleep provides power to energize the body and the mind. Dr. James B. Maas, author of Power Sleep says that if you fall asleep immediately when your head hits the pillow or need an alarm clock to wake up, you need more sleep! (And you may solve a problem while you're doing it!)

7. Eliminate perfectionism. Someone once told me "A perfectionist is someone who takes great pains and gives them to everyone else." If you want to make yourself and the others around you miserable, insist on perfectionism. I have always found it fascinating that the most disorganized people in the world frequently have pockets of perfectionism - spices in alphabetical order in a cupboard over a counter where there's no room to cook. Productivity is about progress, not perfectionism!

If you're working at home, or thinking about it, remember that "home is where the heart is" - and it can be a great place to make a living too!

A typical example of this is John Denver's "I'm Leaving on a Jetplane" and Wyclef Jean's "Gone till November". These songs made hits in different eras. Their basic message was similar ... Baby, you don't need to cry because I'll return.

2. Add a unique twist to a cliche.

Turn on your radio and you will hear cliches being repeated over and over. Using these very same cliches is simply a futile exercise.

My suggestion is to add a unique twist to these cliches. This is something I am focusing on more and more.

A typical example of adding a unique twist to a cliche is found in Dianne Warren's "Unbreak my Heart" made popular by Toni Braxton. The ever popular cliche, "break my heart", was twisted.

(3) Here are three lyric writing suggestions.

1. Write a song about a particular incident. Your song should tell a story.

2. Write lyrics that have absolutely nothing to do with anything you've actually experienced.

3. Get lyric writing ideas from newspapers, magazines, movies, TV and so on.

Overcoming lyric writing hurdles involves a lot of determination, hard work and perseverance on your part. Implement the suggestions presented above and move one step closer to lyric writing success.

FBI Agent Hiring Process

The pre-hiring process can be a challenge. If you're reading this article, you are finished with the pre-hiring process and are looking for tips that will guide you through the interview.

Much time and energy can be invested and in the end, wasted, if your approach is not focused, deliberate, and specific. The following approaches have resulted in engaging, content-rich interviews providing us with a clear approach appropriate for each candidate.

The Interview

1. Arrange interviews with a least three applicants. Three gives you a well-rounded base from which you can choose the best one. Sometimes three isn't enough, and you may need to place another ad or extend the application deadline, but it's a good place to start.

2. Set appointment times close enough so that afterwards you remember details of each and can compare qualities of the applicants, but far enough apart so that applicants don't "pass each other in the hall" thereby creating an awkward situation.

3. In advance, prepare a form with the following (or similar) questions that will be completed by you during the interview:

a. Where were you last employed?

b. What type of business was it?

c. Why did you leave?

d. What are your strengths?

e. What are your areas of improvement?

f. What frustrates you most on-the-job?

g. Give an anger scenario. How would you handle the situation?

h. How would you resolve office personality conflicts? Give an example of a situation that has happened and how it was resolved.

i. Give an example of having made a mistake and how you resolved it.

j. Describe your ideal day on-the-job.

k. What three words best describe you?

l. What is your greatest professional asset?

m. What is your greatest area of professional improvement?

n. How do you spend your leisure hours? What are your hobbies/ interests?

o. Where do you expect to find yourself professionally in 5 years?

p. What are your personal 10-20 year aspirations?

4. Asking odd questions is an excellent way to elicit a response that will indicate how the prospective employee may react on-the-job. It is a method that will show how well they can "think on their feet." If this quality is important to you, ask unexpected/unusual questions!

Post-Interview

1. After thanking each applicant for their time and excusing them, spend 5-10 minutes making personal notes about the applicant. This will trigger your memory later.

2. After completing all interviews, compare interview sheets/notes. Assign a number system if necessary to make an assessment that allows you to compare "apples to apples."

3. Based on the results of interviews, make a final decision on which candidates will be invited to the office to be tested. During a 45-minute session, small tests are designed to test how applicants respond, how quickly they are able to grasp concepts, what type of questions they ask, etc.

4. After testing, a final decision is made and the chosen applicant is contacted via a personal telephone call.

5. Contact each of the other applicants (not being hired) and extend a personal message indicating that a final decision was made and that you wish them the best in their job search. This is a consideration not given to most applicants, but it leaves a positive impression. You may also indicate that if you search for additional help in the future, they are at the top of your list! And, they will probably remember you because you took the time to call.

The first item of business the first day of employment is to have employee sign an Agreement that includes details on issues of confidentiality and a 30-day trial period. This window of time can vary but this is an excellent way of ensuring both sides are compatible before making any long-term assumptions. Agreement should include details of expectations for both sides as well as a method of actions taken in the case of inappropriate actions/behavior before the person would officially be let go. The clearer the expectations, the better for everyone.

Following the guidelines provided, the interview process can be efficient and effective, resulting in quality staff additions that truly enhance your business. Keep in mind that your business is unique and additional groundwork is required to focus on specific questions that provide answers you need to make the best decision. Approach the interview process by adhering to the above guidelines, and expect a dynamic outcome as a result!

The 1998 Data Protection Act was not an extension to, but rather a replacement which retains the existing provisions of the data protection system established by the 1984 legislation. The Act was to come into force from 24 October 1998 but was delayed until 1st March 2000.

In addition to data, manual records were to be brought within the terms of the new data protection system, thus allowing subject access rights to access to such records.

Due to the allowances made for existing institutions to be brought into compliance with the new legislation, manual data processing that began before 24 October 1998 was to comply with the new subject access accommodations of the Act until 2001.

Now 4 years later there are still unresolved issues such as the security threats presented by computerisation, these can be broadly divided into 3 broad categories:

Incompatible usage:
Where the problem is caused by an incompatible combination of hardware and software designed to do two unconnected but useful things which creates weak links between them which can be compromised into doing things which they should not be able to.

Physical:
Where the potential problem is caused by giving unauthorised persons physical access to the machine, might allow user to perform things that they should not be able to.

Software:
Where the problem is caused by badly written items of "privileged" software which can be compromised into doing things which they should not be able to.

Security philosophy:
A systems security implementations (software,

protected hardware, and compatible) can be rendered essentially worthless without appropriate administrative procedures for computer system use.

The following details the results of the threat analysis. If a computer system was setup to mimic the current running of the health practice the following considerations should be understood:

That due to the nature of the institution, stable arrangements would need to be made to protect the:

Data: Programs and data held in primary (random access and read only memory) and secondary (magnetic) storage media.

Hardware: Microprocessors, communications links, routers, and primary / secondary storage media.

Security Threats:
The following details the relevant security threats to the institution and the more common causes of security compromise.

Disclosure:
Due to both the sensitive nature of the information to be stored and processed there are more stringent requirements of the new data protection legislation, all reasonable precautions must be taken to insure against this threat.

Attackers:
Although the vast majority of unauthorized access is committed by hackers to learn more about the way computer systems work, cracker activities could have serious consequences that may jeopardize

an organisation due to the subsequent violation of the seventh data protection principle ie that personal data shall be surrounded by proper security.

The staff:
It is widely believed that unauthorized access comes from the outside, however, 80% of security compromises are committed by hackers and crackers internal to the organisation.

[2] Be able to bypass the system protection mechanisms.

The data subject invoking the right to access personal data creates a breach in security by definition. To comply with such a request the data must be &unlocked' to provide access to it, thus creating additional risks to security. Inasmuch as:

[1] If copies have to be made, this will normally be by clerical staff who would not normally have such rights themselves.

[2] The copies may go astray whilst being made available.

[3] Verification of the identity of the data subject becomes very important.

Software:
Many business have database applications that are typically designed to allow one to two staff to handle a greater work load. Therefore such software does not allow validation (confirming that data entries are sensible) of the details the staff enter.

This is a critical security risk as it allows basic acts of fraud to be committed, such as, bogus data entry (entering additional unauthorised information).

Importance Of Good Security:
Data is valuable in terms of time and money spent on gathering and processing it. Poor or inadequate system protection mechanisms canlead to malicious computer system attacks (illegal penetration and use of computer equipment).

One or more devious, vandalising, crackers may damage a computer system and / or data, such damage could have serious consequences other than those of the subsequent violation of the seventh data protection principle that may jeopardize the organisation. For example:

Loss of information: Which can cost money to recreate.

False information: With possible legal action taken.

Bad management: Due to incorrect information.

Principles Of Computer Security:
The publication and exploration of inefficiencies and bugs in security programs that exit in all complex computer programs (including operating systems), methods of entry and ease of access to such technical information has meant that a system is only as secure as the people who have access to it and that good system security cannot be guaranteed by the application of a device or operating system.

Computerisation:
Media reports that draw public attention to the security threats inherent in the nature of programable technology and the safety of individuals information has given rise to situations where institutions entrusted with sensitive information need to spend as much time and energy to gain public trust in such systems as they do in providing serveries.

Although this scenario does not yet apply to the health industry inasmuch as the public are not yet the end users of the system, such social impressions must be considered:

For example, if an estate agent displays complete details about one terraced house, you can infer what the neighbouring house is like. In a medical practice, full patient details about three members of a family could probably allow you to construct the details of a fourth.

This must be linked to the proposition that, in the last 10 years or so more information has been stored about individuals than in all of previous history, and, because of computerisation, all of that information is capable of being pulled together from the different organisations (banks, stores, state, etc) which hold it.

Right To Privacy:
It can be seen that the statement &The processing of personal computerised data represents a threat to the individual's right to privacy' is well founded. Unfortunately, until now, there has been no statutory right in English law to personal privacy.

For this reason, a right to privacy of that information has been set into the data protection legislation, and, it is only such legislation that prevents complete dossiers from being compiled on any given individual.

Health professionals are exempted from the need for prior approval before processing personal information, for example, as it is clear the health of the individual overrides the individual's right to privacy, and the consent can be taken for granted.

This does not prevent health professionals from having the full burden of protecting that information from unauthorised access, specifically due to the higher obligations placed on them by the Hippocratic oath which states that a member of the medical profession should respect the secrets which are confided them, even after the patient has died.

However, as can be seen from the exemptions and exceptions, a difficult balance has to be achieved between the right to privacy, and the needs of the individual (and/or the organisation).

In the case of the any entity or practice, the data subject's rights to the protection of the data that relates to them creates a conflict of interests between them and the practice inasmuch the complex security system needed for this requires extra administration and the navigation of a complex system every time data is need may place extra stress on the staff, both things the management may wish to avoid.

6. Simple breathing meditation.

A great exercise that you can do anywhere is a simple breathing meditation. No need to dress in orange robes. Simply find yourself in a comfortable sitting position with your back straight. Now close your eyes and become aware of the flow of air into and out of your nostrils. That's it! Do this for 10/15 minutes and you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised how you feel afterward.

7. Doodling just for fun!

Remember when you were young and you used to doodle with crayons for hours. Kids love drawing silly little pictures, why not adults? So get some pens, pencils, crayons or whatever you have and just draw - doodle away until your state of mind shifts.

You might agree that these are all pretty simple and that's what's so good about them. Making changes, mundane or profoundly life-changing, are easily and quickly achieved by putting into action simple ideas, methods, tools and techniques.

If you're a &smart cookie' you advertise, you market, you engage the services of professionals to assist in the sale of products and services... But who sells your business to prospective employees?

Now that's a tough one! And it's not something that too many people think about. Recruiting new employees in most industries is done on an &as needed' basis and therein lies the problem - no future planning, and no &selling' consideration.

The opener to my column this month raises the point that you likely spend time and resources trying to capture new clients. You make sure that you can (to the best of your ability) service them in a way that corresponds to your sales promise.

--- What do you &promise' your future employees?

Your sales promise is one of the principle reasons why customers bring their business to you. And so long as your internal reality (the way you perform and deliver on that promise) matches your external reality (the way in which you are perceived) you can expect success.

But again, how do you market and sell to the second most important people in your company - your staff? And don't think for a moment that once you've got them they're going to simply stick around... Do your customers just stay?

You've got to resell and recommit them to you and your business. Just like customers who get up one day and leave, never to return, so do employees. They're people just like you and I and things change. Life is constantly in flux and evolving and as a species we are adapting.

--- Nothing happens until someone sells something...in this case it's you!

Now without getting too &deep', simply think of it this way, you sell to employees - they buy your money and sell you their time. Alternatively your Clients (or customers) buy your services (provided by your employees) and pay you money. Without a steady and constant stream of buying and selling transactions - you have no business!

Okay, so now that I've established that we need to sell ourselves (or at least our businesses) to prospective employees, so that we have a stream of available resources as we need them, the question becomes how?

Ironically, you can approach the process of selling your company as &the' place to work in the same fashion that you advertise your business as &the' place for customers to bring their vehicles: you simply advertise.

--- But this time it's different:

�€� The market is not the same because the people who will buy your &job offer' are not the same as the people who would buy your vehicle repair services.
�€� The advertising mediums will likely overlap a little, but just like a certain bait only works for certain fish, this too will cause things to change. Serious enquirers will likely want quality information so expect to create brochures and other sales pieces tailored to their needs.
�€� And the message will most definitely be different. TIP - Position yourself a &leading local business' that's offering a &unique opportunity' not a job.

As I suggested, serious enquirers will likely want more information. I'd recommend at least a good employment brochure - a standard tri-fold will suffice. You'll need to talk about the opportunity, explain their benefits, your history and a host of other proven topics.

Once you've created your employee brochure make sure it's placed on your counter, make it available to potential candidates via email, direct mail and &take one' displays.

Encourage your staff to suggest referrals. You can use display advertising but again, you'll need to do things a little differently than perhaps your used to. Either way, there are plenty of good resources that can show you how to target market future employees.

In conclusion, don't treat marketing to your employees as an after thought: your future depends on it. And remember, even once they're on board, you've got to give them reasons to stay - and it will need to include more than just money based incentives.

Guinea Pig Secrets Revealed

Three little pigs went to the market to stock up for the future.

The first little pig liked chips so he went to the DOW market. He was told by everyone you could always rely on their products. They were always good. The manager told him you could put them away and forget about them.

The second little pig liked spicy things. He shopped at the NASDAQ market where they had unusual products. He said that his purchases were good to put away even though they had some strange ingredients. He took his home and said he did not need to worry about them even though others had told him to be careful.

The third little pig went to both of those markets. He would pinch the tomatoes and squeeze the Charmin. He was a very careful shopper. Many times he would put things in his shopping cart, but later take them out because they were not "just right".

Our first little piggy brought home his purchases, put them away and many times forget about them. The store manager had told him they would always be good and he believed him so he did not bother to check on them periodically.

When the second pig got home he also put the things he picked out at the market on his shelf and would brag to his friends about the great things he would have in the future when he was ready to retire. He would have more than he would ever need. He rarely looked in the pantry, but once in a while he knew that one of the products was spoiling. That didn't worry him either, as he knew they would still be fine some time in the future when he wanted them.

The third little guy put his purchases away, but regularly checked to see that they were all right. If one of them was not "just right" he would take it back to the market. Our third pig made sure that none of his market purchases went sour.

Time passed and our first little pig got to the point that he needed to start eating out of his savings. To his dismay he found many of his guaranteed chips has spoiled. There were still enough there so he could eat, but not the way he had before. Our second pig also no longer bought at the market, but when he went to the pantry he found almost all of his purchases had become rotten. In order to eat at all he had to take a job at Wal-Mart as a greeter.

Mr. Third Pig's purchases all were good because every month he had checked to be sure nothing was going bad and if it was he would get rid of it right away. He was able to enjoy being at home or playing golf because his pantry was full.

It seems it doesn't make any difference where our 3 pigs did their shopping - DOW or NASDAQ markets. The important difference was that the one who checked to be sure his purchases never went bad was the one who ended up with plenty.

Many of us want the taste of fresh picked-when-ripe tomatoes, corn, peas and etc. Some folks believe it's the healthiest way to live. Others love the fresh air and exercise, digging in the dirt, and the joy of being a co-creator with God.

The idea of having our food grown by strangers on huge farms in far distant places, while perhaps using harmful pesticides and herbicides, makes others want the security and control of growing their own. And at times like 9/11 we all feel vulnerable to disruptions in the complex delivery system that brings food to our doors.

Sustainable Gardening is really quite simple, and most of the work is already done for you by nature. All you need to do is learn and follow 10 basic rules. The following steps will assure you a great gardening experience. Learn and enjoy!

1) Choose a location away from shade of all kinds that's reasonably level, has a good water supply, and has easy access

2) Remove everything from the soil: rocks, rubbish, and vegetation, including roots and runners of perennial weeds and shrubs. Then till or dig everything 8" to 10" deep.

3) Plan, stake, and build level ridged soil-beds in which to plant seeds or seedlings. An 18"-wide soil-bed or open-bottom box, with aisles of at least 3' is ideal.

4) Assure balanced nutrition for your crops. Basically, this means you will need natural mineral nutrients, including a pre-plant mix you'll apply and mix with your soil one time at the rate of one ounce (2 TBS) per running foot of soil-bed, and a growing mix for weekly feeding. These are mixes you can make yourself at very little cost. We'll tell you exactly how to make these two mixes in another article.

5) Plant seedlings or seeds at the proper time, so they don't freeze, and space them based on their size at maturity, to give them ample growing room.

6) Immediately after transplanting seedlings, give them a boost with 34-0-0 or other nitrogen fertilizer. Apply 4" from plant stems along the row of plants, using 1/4 ounce per running foot of soil-bed. Water thoroughly.

7) Three days after transplanting, or immediately upon emergence of sprouted seedlings, begin applying the growing mix, using 1/2 ounce per running foot of soil-bed. Continue weekly until 3 weeks before crop maturity. Look for more about feeding your crops in another article.

8) At the first sign of tiny weeds, use a 2-way hoe to remove them. Never let weeds get even one inch high, but continue weeding until they give up. E and O weeding (early and often!) will assure you a weed-free garden, along with much more abundant and healthier crops.

9) Water down the center of your level ridged soil-beds daily, or as needed to maintain moisture in your soil-beds. Never let the soil dry out, since wilting plants are already dying.

10) Harvest your crops at the peak of maturity for best appearance, taste, and health benefit. Never leave crops in the garden after maturity, or they will quickly lose their food value and attract bugs and diseases.

Just learn these few basic rules, follow them accurately, and watch nature's miracle turn your bare ground into a cornucopia of tasty and healthy fruits and vegetables.

question, the greatest story in the Bible of someone who sought after the knowledge and wisdom of God and actually received it was King Solomon in the Old Testament. What happened to this man was just about beyond belief.

When Solomon became King of Israel, he knew he did not have the knowledge and wisdom to properly rule his people. So what did he do? He went direct to God the Father and asked Him for His knowledge and His wisdom to rule the people. He admitted his weakness in this area and was not afraid to press in and start asking God for His knowledge.

So what did God do when he asked Him for His knowledge to help rule his people? God did not meet him halfway - He met him all the way! As you will see in the two verses I will list below - God tells Solomon because he did not ask for long life, riches or the death of his enemies for himself - but just asked for an "understanding heart" to judge his people and help with discerning between good and evil - God tells him that He will give him a "wise and understanding heart."

But then God takes it one more incredible step further. He tells Solomon that the knowledge and wisdom that will be given to him will be like what no man has ever had before him and what no man will ever have after him! In other words - God will make this man the smartest man in God that has ever lived, and that there would never be another man in the course of human history that would ever have the knowledge that he would be given.

Just stop and ponder on what an incredible thing that this was - to have been given so much knowledge and wisdom direct from God Himself - that no man would ever be his equal in this gift!

Then God goes one more extra step in order to put the icing on this man's cake. He then tells Solomon that since he did not ask for riches for himself - but just for the knowledge of God to rule his people - that he will now be given incredible riches and honor to go along with the knowledge and wisdom to rule his people. Then God adds the final touch on the riches and honor he will be given - telling Solomon that there shall never be another king like him all the days of his life and that he will surpass all the kings of the earth in "riches and wisdom." In other words - God ends up making this man the smartest and richest man in all of the earth at the time that he was living!

If Solomon was really not asking God for wealth and riches - but just for the knowledge and wisdom to rule his people - why would God go so overboard in blessing this man with this kind of wealth - especially if he was not asking for it and possibly not even desiring it?

I believe the main reason God rewarded Solomon with this kind of maximum wealth was not only to show him, but

the rest of His people that would come later on, the extreme importance that each and every person seek after the knowledge of God for their own lives. By blessing Solomon with this kind of wealth - God is telling all of us the extreme importance that we seek after Him and His knowledge for our lives.

In other words - seeking after the knowledge of God has to be a major priority in a believer's life. We cannot spiritually grow and develop in the Lord unless we have His knowledge worked into us that will cause this spiritual growth to occur in the first place. And you can't get this knowledge worked into you unless you are first seeking after it!

Seek and then you will find. But the reverse is also true - don't seek, and you will not find. And if you don't find the knowledge of God for your life - then the Holy Spirit will not have anything to work with to start the transformation and sanctification process within you.

Grab a hold of these two verses and the statements that God is making to Solomon - all because he got this ball rolling by simply asking God for His knowledge to help rule his people.

"Therefore give to your servant an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?"

And the speech pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked for this thing.Then God said to him: "Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.

And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days." (1 Kings 3:9-14)
"So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom. And all the earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart." (1 Kings 10:23)

If King Solomon was able to receive this kind of knowledge and wisdom from God - simply because he asked and really pressed in for it - then what can God do for you in this realm if you are willing to expend the time and energy to seek after it?

Puppies are fun and full of tons of wiggly energy. Enjoy your puppy. Be sure to give your puppy a name befitting of it's personality and call it by name often. I've been both a CEO and a consultant, so I've seen from both perspectives what goes right and what goes wrong when a consultant comes in to a company. Generally the CEO or the manager who hires the consultant tells the consultant what he or she wants. Often the manager is frustrated with something that is happening at the company and expects the consultant will have the expertise to "just fix it". While the manager needs to set the expectations, of course, the consultant rarely gets to voice what he or she knows would make the consulting engagement more successful for both.

Here is what your consultant would love to tell you about making him or her successful working on your behalf:

1. Please Do Your Homework before I Come In

Too many owners and managers hire a consultant and then stop thinking. They present a list of general problems and expect the expert to conjure dramatic results. This approach almost always ends in frustration and many, many billable hours.

Instead, you have to take the initiative and stay involved. Discuss your needs, problems, and parameters in candid terms from the start. Set a budget or schedule upfront for each project a consultant tackles. Save your skepticism (or your staff's) for the interview process; once you've chosen a consultant, give him or her the benefit of everything you know and access to all important information.

One of the biggest costs in hiring outside expertise is bringing the consultant up to speed on your company's operations. If you can prepare reports and numbers internally, you can help the consultant stay away from data gathering and other basic reporting functions; keep the consultant focused on analysis. You can tabulate numbers yourself; you've hired the expert to help you move forward from there. When you hire consultants, keep in mind that their most important skill should be critical analysis and problem solving.

Another point to consider is that many consultants have a steep sort of half life as to enthusiasm for a project. They are consultants because they like variety. In other words, their best thoughts and greatest creativity come early in their relationships with clients. Being prepared from the start allows you to take full advantage of short attention spans.

2. Please let me stay focused on what I came in for and keep the distractions and new requests to a minimum if you want me to stay within your original budget (or expand the budget).

A consultant's expertise is so welcome in certain environments that they number of projects multiplies beyond the hiring manager's original intent, but often with their knowledge. The original project may be just the tip of the iceberg of problems within a company, some of which are best solved by a consultant but many of which are best hired within the company after working with the consultant to develop a plan.

Like any outside contractor or vendor, consultant services are a commodity-and consultants want to sell as much of this commodity over as long a time as they can. That's their understandable inclination as business people. However, it's your understandable inclination as an owner or manager to minimize the amount you pay them.

The consultant may be right to say there aren't quick fixes to serious problems, but don't let that lead to open-ended engagements. Most consultants agree that restructuring involves two phases: a design phase, in which new ways of doing work are fashioned, and an implementation phase, in which the new ways of doing work actually are put in place. Have the consultant schedule these phases. This helps set up an exit strategy for the consultant, which is an important cost control tool. In addition, the consultant will see the project as a limited engagement, rather than open ended.

3. Please set regular times to meet so that I have access to the person who hired me to get clarifications and not waste your time (and not waste my time).

Set regular times to meet (weekly or monthly) when the consultant will review conclusions, answer questions, and challenge you on better ways to run your business.

Make sure these are working meetings. Avoid meetings that turn into administrative updates. By meeting with the consultant regularly, you can compartmentalize-and better control-the amount of time you spend with him or her. It also forces the consultant to be succinct and not draw on too much of your time. In this context, you can expect more from a consultant than from an employee. The consultant's attention should focus squarely on problems you're paying him or her to consider, not on operational details.

Remember that you are paying bigger dollar amounts for this help, so you don't want a consultant to be billing you for time in your office unless you are using that time wisely. Too many times employees don't understand how a consulting arrangement works - they want the consultant to be available to them during their working hours. Consultants shouldn't be at your company every day where they can be distracted. They should only be there in order to meet with other people. Otherwise, they need to be doing their analysis in the peace and quiet of their own offices. 4. Please Don't Kill the Messenger

The manager or CEO who hired the consultant may be very excited at the beginning of working together and feel like he or she just unloaded their burden onto some capable shoulders. Then the consultant prepares an analysis and the recommendations all rely on additional work to be done by managers and employees inside the company. The recommendations may also involve actions that aren't fun to carry out, such as demoting or terminating non-performing employees. They may call for additional reports or extra meetings. Expect that the consultant will come to some conclusions you won't like immediately, but they may be the only way to end some long-term problems.

In conclusion, when you keep consultants disciplined and focused, you can use them to great advantage. Be clear on the purpose of hiring the consultant and what you can and can't expect their work to produce. Up front clarity will lead to a productive and valuable relationship.

Sometimes you will even find a local restaurant that specializes in low budget wedding receptions. These will likely offer a package for the reception which may include dinner and limited beverage with the rental of restaurant space or banquet rooms. Leave no stone unturned in your search! You may happen upon a gem of a deal that will save you alot of money. Ask around. Get recommendations from friends and family. These are elegant locations and are usually competatively priced; Including options for the low budget wedding.

Make a list or chart to record all your findings. Record not only price but services available, and packages available. Then you can compare where you will get the most for your money.

For instance, you may be able to rent a space for a really cheap rate and hire outside catering for the dinner. But, if you find a location that costs more but will offer you a package that includes the catering, it may be the better deal in the long run.

The one big exception to this scenario is if you opt for a potluck reception. Many guests may be pleased, if not relieved, to be given the choice to bring a reception dish in place of a wedding gift.

You will find that low budget reception packages usually come with a low budget menu as well. If you choose this option, you will save greatly on catering expenses. I am certain your guests will be more pleased with the menu selections. This would be your best low budget wedding option and will save the most money.

The Potluck Reception

Don't be shy to pursue this potluck reception idea. It is truly the traditional way to celebrate. And, it is truly the number one low budget wedding option.

Today's weddings are so commercialized. You will learn that caterers offer very limited menus to very limited budgets! Guests will likely be very pleased and welcome the idea of a potluck reception.

The potluck reception goes well with any wedding theme. If you are shy about approaching this option you can simply call it an "Old Time Traditional Wedding Celebration" The potluck dinner will suit this theme quite naturally and no-one will even question it!

You may even want to pick an "Old Time" theme for your decorating and favors. This will further incorporate the idea of an old time tradition theme. Perhaps a 50's theme or a 20's theme. These are both popular old time themes.

Simply slip an added note with the invite, or on the invite, to give guests this option. For example the note might read...

~Our reception will be an "Old Time Traditional Celebration" with a potluck dinner. ____ Please check here if you would like to bring a dish for the reception in place of a wedding gift. Call with dish suggestions please.

Have them call to get or offer suggestions on a dish so you have control over the menu. No one is obligated to particitpate, but I'm sure you will be surprised at how many guests will opt for this.

You and your guest will be equally surprised at the great variety and quality of the dishes provided. Guests will want to bring only their best recipes to a grand occasion such as a wedding reception!

What if you want a Boxer, but cannot stomach the thought of housebreaking, chewed up shoes and boundless puppy energy? Have you ever heard of Boxer rescue? These organizations provide loving care (and sometimes rehabilitation) to Boxers who have been surrendered by their owners, found abandoned or rescued from harmful situations.

Too many people get a Boxer for the wrong reasons and thankfully there are rescue organizations to take these dogs into their homes and provide care until a forever family can be found.

Now, this is not to say that rescue dogs are perfect, just that with a little love and care these can be the best companion you may ever have. Many a rescue volunteer has been so touched by a Boxer moving through the rescue system that they are impacted forever.

To help you decide if a rescue Boxer is for you, read the list below. You may be surprised what a 2nd chance Boxer can do for you!

1. No housebreaking! In fact, most rescue volunteers do their best to ensure the dogs are housebroken and know some basic commands.

2. Rescue/Adult Boxers are usually past the chewing stage. Just be sure to provide plenty of appropriate chew toys.

3. Reduced veterinary expenses. Most of the time, your Rescue Boxer will be neutered or spayed already (almost always) and have its shots. There will be instances when you need to continue a medication, but the volunteers will give you plenty of information prior to adopting a Boxer.

4. Sweet Dreams. Rescue/Adult Boxers usually mean that you get a goodnight sleep since you don�€�t have to calm the fears of a puppy. Additionally, adult Boxers have bigger bladders which means you won�€�t have to make a wee-wee run at 2am!

5. Thumbelina or Gargantua?

You know how big the Boxer will be when you get a Rescue/Adult Boxer. There will be no surprises such as; you think you are getting a big puppy because of the big paws only to wind up with MiniMe.

These wild pigs can be fierce and furious. Can you imagine a wild hog charging you with thunderous speed, hooves slashing with a head the size of Texas swinging back and forth in the air. I can!

This grunting and squealing pig is an enormous beast! He came charging out of the brush right in front of me. Now being from up north this startled me, no it scared the ......right out of me. I dropped my bow and took off as fast as I could, climbing a small tree. Now I know that hogs can not climb trees, but as I sat perched in the tree the only thing running through my mind was the old phase "when pigs fly" and believe you me I was waiting for this pig to fly!

No, they can't fly can they? The nasty wild hog stomped around the base of this little tree waiting for m. As it stomped it rooted up the ground around the tree. I would image all the noise it was making was to let me that I was in his territory.

You are probably laughing at me as you read this. But I swear this was the largest meanest and wildest pig that was ever put on this planet!

Now not to far away was a party of hunters who had heard all the racket and noise from me yelling and the pig snorting. They came running down the trail to see what was going on. It must have been a sight! What with me in the tree, my bow scattered thirty feet away, and this hog stomping around the base of the tree, just waiting to devour me.

I am not sure how long I was stuck in this tree, but it seemed like a life time. My Texas exotic hunting adventure was getting off to a fine start.

With the sound of the other hunters coming down the trail, the mean old hog must have figured it was out numbered because it charged off into the bush.

My new found hunting friends told me that Texas exotic hunting required a guide, and that these hogs could be a handful for the hunters who had little or no experience, especially if you were hunting with a bow. I'm thinking now someone tells me this.

They said that bows were OK for white tail, but with the short range of the bow one should really have a better weapon. They also mentioned that one should have a good understanding of wild hogs.

Picking up my bow I peered into the brush looking to see if my little friend was still around. I figured that I was pretty safe as the other four hunter all had rifles.

Just as I thought, the wild snorting hog had run away to fight another day and torment someone else. I had already decided my next trip would be with a guide as I was not ready to go and get cornered by a wild hog again.

The guide that was with the hunters gave me a card which had directions to his lodge. I told him I'd be in contact real soon!

Finding my jeep was no easy task but I did manage. I headed off to the guides lodge where I was met by a very friendly lady at the office. She explained all the costs for a guided trip.
